Fragment

He loved the smell of gasoline and the feeling of oil between his fingers. His ceaseless exigence was a breathing thing, a rasp in the throat, a cold hand at his back. His dreams churned of mechanical dread, of time’s weight. He lay on his back watching the ceiling seem to move, and inside him something bright and sharp is growing.
